It's that time of year again! Overnight Camp is one of the most popular USAGSO-Singapore events every year; you don't want to miss it! This year's theme is "Everyday Heroes" and it is always a fun weekend-away-from-home for Second-year Brownies and older Girl Scouts. The girls enjoy outdoor activities, crafts, campfires, songs, make new friends, exchange SWAPs and do kapers (chores).
When: March 2nd - 4th, 2018
Where: Camp Sarimbun
*IMPORTANT: Before registering, please read ALL the information on this page.*
Where is Camp Sarimbun?
It is located in Jalan Bhatera, a quiet and lush part of Singapore, with gated grounds near several other local camps. The camp facilities include a welcome hall, dining facilities, enclosed cabins with bunk beds, toilet & shower facilities, campfire area, parade ground, and activity fields among many other amenities.
Bus transportation is available to/from Camp at the Singapore American School (in Woodlands) and at the Newton Food Centre Carpark and must be reserved when you register. If you do plan on driving, be aware Camp Sarimbun is not located correctly in many commercial GPS devices and mobile device apps!
What Happens at Camp?
Overnight Camp is often the highlight of the year for Girl Scouts in Singapore. It is a chance to be independent, have fun and learn new things all in a safe setting away from home for an entire weekend. All activities and cabin oversight are organized and run by parents and older Girl Scout Program Aides to keep the girls busy and engaged throughout the weekend.
Overnight Camp is intended to be a full weekend away-from-home experience. Campers are required to stay the entire weekend on the Camp grounds from check-in Friday until pick-up on Sunday. Campers cannot check-in after Friday, and cannot leave Camp on Saturday or early Sunday except for health or safety reasons.
If you child has never been to a sleep-away-from-home camp before or if you have specific concerns, please read "Is Your Child Ready for Overnight Camp?" Before registering, consider carefully if your child is ready (and you are as well) for a multi-day overnight experience away from home.

What Should She Bring?
Singapore weather at this time of year is typically hot, humid and rain is always possible. In addition, some activities will be messy and muddy and each Girl Scout must take care of themselves the entire weekend, so pack accordingly. In addition, this year girls need to bring their own bedding, pillow and “mess kit” (plate, cup, utensils, etc). Please note that Girl Scouts are NOT allowed to bring any food/snacks/sweets or electronic devices (iPods/iPads, cell phones, radios, electronic games, etc.) to Camp. We know that's a lot to remember, so we've compiled this handy checklist that all Girl Scouts and parents should use when packing:
[Download the Overnight Camper Checklist]
Program Aides
Overnight Camp is also a great opportunity for older Girl Scouts to develop their leadership skills. Girls who are 2nd Year Cadettes or higher may register as a Program Aid (PA). They will work with the Camp organizers and parent volunteers to run the Camp and are entitled to a significantly reduced fee.
All PAs must undergo training prior to the start of camp and there are two mandatory training sessions for PA's this year. All girls who want to be PAs this year must sign up for training beforehand so we can get a headcount for these sessions.
- 'Classroom' Session (11-Feb) Mandatory for all NEW PA's and all previously trained PA's are requested to attend to help prepare camp materials.
- 'Activities' Session (25-Feb) Mandatory for ALL PA's; this session will be held at Camp Sarimbun and transportation will be provided.
Parent Participation
Camp doesn't have to be fun JUST for the girls and all work for the grown-ups! Enjoy some S’Mores with your daughter! Savor the outdoors with a fabulous Sunset! Cabin Moms will be assigned in a separate cabin from their daughter, which allows the camper to get the independent feel of overnight camp, while allowing for a nice bonding experience. The experience is fun and unique – take advantage of it. Meals and lodging free for all Cabin Moms or daytime volunteers who stay overnight.
That said, Overnight Camp is our largest and most complex event every year, and without participation from everyone we simply cannot do it. As part of the registration process, please also sign up for a volunteer assignment during the Camp weekend. Most jobs require no more than 4 hours commitment (but we'd love to have you sign up for more)! NOTE: If you plan to be a Cabin Mom for the duration of Camp, you need to sign up for three (3) slots (Friday Overnight, Saturday Daytime & Saturday Overnight).
[Sign Up Here as a Parent Volunteer]
Registration & Fees
You must register for Overnight Camp online; space is limited to 120 Girl Scouts so please make sure you register as soon as possible.
Camper Fee: $170
PA/Counselor Fee: $70
We cannot provide refunds for unused registrations, so please check your schedule carefully before registering. Registration closes and full payment must be received on 11-Feb-2018; unpaid registrations after that date will be CANCELLED. Please read our Payment Policy for further details.

Parent Participation
As always, we need a lot of parents to help supervise the activities and large number of young children that will participate in this event. There are a wide variety of Volunteer Assignments available; you will be busy and you will not be bored! Please note, as an Adult Volunteer you will be responsible for specific activities, so you WILL NOT stay with your child throughout the entire event. Only adults who sign up to volunteer will be allowed at camp. We apologize in advance if you are not able to secure a volunteer slot, as they are allotted on a first come first served basis.
[Click Here to Sign up for a Volunteer Assignment]
According to USAGSO rules, we must have a minimum of 1 Adult Volunteer for every 4 girls attending camp. If the ratio isn’t right, the USAGSO organization will not allow us to hold this event. If we do not receive enough volunteers we will be reaching out to the Troops to look for additional volunteers.
Camp is an opportunity for younger Girl Scouts to experience teamwork and personal responsibility in a safe and controlled environment. Therefore, parents without a Volunteer Assignment may not attend "Recycle the World" Day Camp. When registering your daughter, please ensure that she is willing to attend a day long event without your presence.
Older girls will also be working with the younger girls. This reinforces leadership skills in the older girls and also sets a wonderful example for our Daisies and Brownies.
Bus Transportation
Chartered bus service will be provided for all Girl Scouts and Team Leader Volunteers to and from the venue at Camp Christine. Buses will be available from two locations, the Singapore American School (SAS) in Woodlands and Cairnhill Community Centre near the Newton Food Centre, and will return everyone to the same original locations.
All Girl Scout campers MUST ride the chartered buses; parents are not permitted to drop off/pick up their daughters at the camp venue! The bus ride is a measure implemented to make sure your girls stay safe. Team Leaders will get to know their charges on the bus ride to camp which helps them take better care of them during the day. Additionally, bus rides are familiar to many girls who go to school in Singapore and getting on the bus and saying bye is often far easier emotionally than walking in big camp gates.
Departure: Buses will begin loading at 1:15 PM and depart promptly for Camp Christine at 1:30 PM. Please be there ON TIME - they will not wait for late arrivals!
Return: Buses will start loading at Camp Christine at 8:15 PM, depart at 8:30 PM and return to their original locations approximately 9:00 PM. Please be mindful of the volunteers’ time and efforts and arrive on-time to pick up your daughters! Buses may run late if the girls don’t board quickly leaving camp. Be patient and don’t worry: we’re coming!
Registration & Fees
The registration fee is $65; this covers the cost of bus transportation, snacks & dinner, and all activities and crafts. In addition, every registered Girl Scout will receive a gift bag, an event patch and a special Day Camp T-Shirt. Please see the T-Shirt Sizing Guide to ensure you select the right size on the registration form.
Registration will close on Friday, 02-Feb-2018 and no new registrations will be accepted after that date. There is a lot of prep work to organize the teams, buses, food, shirts and so much more. Full payment is also due no later than 02-Feb-2018; all unpaid registrations after that date will be cancelled without notice.
Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations, so please check your schedule carefully before registering. In addition, if the weather is deemed to be dangerous and a risk to the health of our campers, Day Camp will be cancelled with no refunds.
After completing registration, you will receive an email automatic email confirmation. If you do not receive the confirmation email within a few hours, please check your "spam" or "junk" mail folders. Several popular email applications have prevented delivery of registration confirmation emails in the past.
If needed, financial aid assistance is available. Contact chair@singaporeusagirlscouts.org to make arrangements. All requests will remain confidential.
What Should She Bring?

 | On 28-Aug-2017 USA Girl Scouts launched a new online member registration system called "MyGS" system to all USAGS Overseas groups worldwide. This is an exciting development and will help our committee, Troop leaders and parents manage memberships in our growing Girl Scout community. It is a mandatory that all Adult Volunteers and Girl Scouts be registered members in the "MyGS" system and use it to pay their 2017-18 membership fee directly to USA Girl Scouts.
This is something brand-new to all of us, and we are still learning about it as we go along. We've put together this webpage to provide information on how to (re)register and pay your membership fees, and how to get help if you experience problems.
Why Do I Need to Know This? When you sign up your daughter to be a Girl Scout in Singapore you pay a local "program fee" that covers operations and events run by the local committee, and a "membership fee" which goes to the USA Girl Scouts organization to cover her membership and participation insurance. No girl or leader can participate in any Troop or Committee meetings or events without a current member registration.
Prior to July 2017, parents paid a single fee to USAGSO-Singapore and we took care of submitting all the paperwork and paid the USA Girl Scouts "membership fees" for all Girl Scouts in one transaction. However, with the launch of the MyGS system we can no longer do this. From July 2017 forward, parents pay the USAGSO-Singapore "program fee" at sign up, and then must register and pay the USA Girl Scouts "membership fee" separately after receiving their daughter's Troop assignment. Similarly, the USAGSO-Singapore committee covers the cost of membership registrations for all Troop Leaders. In the past, we would submit all the paperwork and pay for leader memberships in a single transactions. Again, with the launch of the MyGS system we can no longer register and pay for leaders directly. Leaders must now register themselves, and submit the receipt to the Treasurer for reimbursement.
How to Register - Returning Singapore Girl Scouts & Leaders
If your daughter was a Girl Scout or you were a Troop Leader or Committee Member in Singapore last year, you should have received and email titled "Welcome to the Girl Scout Community". This email has a link to access your personal online account and set your password during your first login. You can also login using this link: https://gsmembers.force.com/members/login.
IMPORTANT: If you did not receive a MyGS login email, please see How to Get Help below.
CHECK YOUR HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS
After successfully logging in, please check that the information on the "FAMILY PROFILE" page is correct for your family. This page should show all the members of your family who were registered as Adult or Girl members for the 2016-17 membership year (which ended 30-Sep-2017) and their individual registration information. Use the "Edit" option to correct any errors.
There are some data fields on the "FAMILY PROFILE" page that you cannot edit: Gender, Date of Birth, Grade Level or Membership Years. If any of these are incorrect for your family members, you will need to contact USAGSO Customer Care to have them changed.
After reviewing and updating your Family Profile, you next need to check your membership status for 2017-18.
EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION If you already registered your daughter(s) and/or yourself (for Leaders) during the Early Bird period in May/June 2017, you should already be assigned to the correct Troop and show as paid for the 2017-18 membership year.
On the "MEMBERSHIP" page please confirm the following:
- Above the membership information table you should see "Membership Year Oct 1, 2017 to Sept 30, 2018".
- All the Girl Scouts and Adult Members in your family who have participated in past years are listed.
- In the "Participation" column, you should see the assigned Troop number for all Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders in your family. (Singapore Troop numbers are displayed in the format "355xx" where "xx" is the 2-digit Troop number you normally know.)
- In the "Status" column you should see "Renewed for 2018" next to the correct Troop number for 2017-18.
- You may also see Troop numbers from past years, but these should be shown as "Inactive" status.
- If a Troop assignment is wrong, or the Status says "Time to Renew for 2018", please see How to Get Help below.
RENEWING YOUR REGISTRATION If you did not re-register during Early Bird, you have a few extra steps to follow to complete your registration.
On the "MEMBERSHIP" page you should see the following:
- Above the membership information table you should see "Membership Year Oct 1, 2017 to Sept 30, 2018".
- All the Girl Scouts and Adult Members in your family who have participated in past years.
- In the "Participation" column you should see the assigned Troop number for all Girl Scouts and Troop Leaders in your family. You may also see Troop numbers from past years. (Singapore Troop numbers are displayed in the format "355xx" where "xx" is the 2-digit Troop number you normally know.)
- In the "Status" column, you will see "Time to Renew for 2018" next to each name in your family.
- If you do not see the correct Troop number for this year, please wait until 02-Oct-2017 to renew your membership. You will then be able to pick the right Troop from the master list during the registration process.
To renew, select the "Renew" option for each Girl Scout and/or Adult in your family who will participate in 2017-18 and click "CONTINUE".
- If you are renewing a Troop Leader membership, follow from Step 4 in the How to Register - New Leaders section below.
